The Production Planning Schedule Manager is responsible for developing the master production plan to satisfy demand while carrying minimum effective inventory. The qualified individual will be responsible for providing a mid-term master production schedule for external suppliers and internal manufacturing plants with a monthly production plan consistent with the plant capacity and sales forecast. The sales forecasts, new products, customer expectations, and internal supply constraints will be used to develop production plans, by month, for a rolling three month period. Strong collaboration with the Demand Planning, Replenishment Planning, Strategic Sourcing, Jewelry Supply Planning (External and Internal), and Internal Manufacturing will be critical to meeting business goals.


Master Production Planning

  • Create a rolling 3-month Master Production Plan for designated products. Utilize the production capacity, taking into consideration the sales forecast, historical sales, and new business opportunities. Analyze and identify risks associated with the options built into the Master Production Plan, including manufacturing lead times.
  • Perform supply demand analysis, highlighting areas of concern for the next 12 months.
  • Balance demand and supply at the finished good SKU level
  • Participate in the S&OP process representing supply concerns
  • Determines, implements, and maintains internal/external supplier splits to optimize capacity utilization and improve supply chain agility.
  • Finalize the monthly production plan all-inclusive of both existing and new products along with non-forecasted requirements
  • Accurately model capacity constraints across the supply network of internal and external resources
  • Optimize and balance total plan cost with on time delivery and strategic business objectives
  • Resolve supply constraints through alternate source selection and scheduling prioritization
  • Utilizes “what-if” simulations to evaluate proposed Master Production Schedule changes to determine the impact on parts, materials, and capacity, both labor and material.
  • Work with manufacturing management to optimize resource utilization and stability through level loading, prebuilding, postponement, and finish to order strategies
  • Use Rough Cut Capacity Planning to determine if production (Internal Manufacturing) will be constrained in future periods and identify potential corrective actions such as: working overtime, adding equipment, outsourcing or expediting.
  • Partner with demand management, internal, and external supply sources to manage and execute the monthly planning cycle
  • Proactively review material supply and demand to determine push/pull actions appropriate to impact manufacturing MPS.
  • Ensure coordination with Internal Manufacturing plant schedulers to execute Production Plan on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Support the IBP process meetings to review service levels, performance against schedule, inventory strategy, supply plan to meet demand, and resource implications. Update Master Production Plan as necessary.

Metrics and Analysis

  • Maintain and report production plan performance metrics
  • Work with APS Data specialists in setting/maintaining MRP master data planning parameters for APS, lead times, order modifiers, stocking levels and time fences for both Supply Plans and detail Master Production Schedules.
  • Monitor actual output versus the Master Production Plan. Identify gaps and drive solutions.
  • Assists in the preparation of the Supply Review package as part of the Integrated Business Planning Process. (IBP)

New Product Development  Management

  • Partners with Demand Management to confirm all estimated and final demand for new product launches, determines splits as applicable, for internal manufacturing and the external supplier base.
  • Partners with JSP (NYC) and cross functional teams to achieve optimal timing for new product launches.
  • Collaborates with Strategic Sourcing in providing capacity planning inputs to make vs. buy decisions.
  • Works with the JDIW team, DD and GA to incorporate JDIW Planning BOM’s into JDA.

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelors in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations Research
  • Experience in managing manufacturing processes, productivity, and efficiency measurements
  • Experience using MRP / ERP systems, especially Advance Planning Systems
  • APICS certification (CPIM or CSCP)
  • Similar or Related Experience Desired:
  • 5 years in Master Scheduling and Inventory Control
  • Sound knowledge of supply chain processes and procedures including manufacturing planning, demand, and replenishment processes.
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to reason and influence at all levels.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analysis skills.
  • Ability to manage complexity and resolve conflicts that arise from balancing multiple priorities.
  • Proficient in MS office applications.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Masters in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations Research
  • Working knowledge of JDA and JD Edwards
  • Working Knowledge of DRP functions and processes
  • Prior Jewelry or Retail Experience
