    The Materials and Components Manager, Jewlery Research and Development Center will support all aspects related to JRDC projects. Primary responsibility will be on providing support for the commercialization of Tiffany & Co. design projects. The position will focus on research and development of new and existing materials, the creation and maintenance of a component library, and providing material and component information to the relevant teams. The position will include 5 Key Accountabilities including Prototype & File Creation, Communication, Support for Cross Functional Partners, Collaboration & Leadership, Technology Leader. Functions under each Key Accountability will be compliant with Universal PMP Accountabilities (Strategy, Innovation & Creativity; Execution & Product Excellence; Collaboration & Partnerships; and Expertise & Judgment) and Key PMP Accountabilities specific to the position itself, including Formal Training and Advanced Knowledge & Experience


    Prototype Creation: 

    • The Materials and Components Manager will interface with Design Creative, Manufacturing & JRDC teams (Model Makers, Quality & Standards, Engineering) on product functionality, and the influence of materials on technical design elements.
    • Conduct research and manage the development of new and existing materials, their properties, economics, and application to Tiffany & Co. projects.
    • Provide feedback to JRDC team on material properties as they relate to processes such as casting, rolling, stamping.
    • Conduct research gather and present information on current and historical Tiffany & Co. components.
    • Create and manage the JRDC component library
    • Partner with the Design, Product Development, Jewelry Supply Management, and JRDC teams on new component development
    • Lead discussions with internal and external suppliers on new material development and implementation, and construction applications
    • Partner with JRDC Quality & Standards to develop testing methods to evaluate new materials and process impacts of methods of production. Coordinate and ensure all appropriate product testing is executed
    • Prepare material reports, specifications, and development paths for distribution to relevant teams
    • Partner with cross functional partners to present new materials, applications and resuiting ROI


    • Ensure key product creation process dates/gates are met, tools are effectively utilized and cross-functional teamwork occurs. Monitor and ensure adherence to timelines and accurate completion of projects. Communicate effectively to keep team updated on project status, issues, and concerns.
    • Identify and communicate potential barriers to meeting completion timelines as soon as they arise
    • Responsible for ensuring that Tracking Documents are updated and accurate, reporting project status in various documents and face to face meetings.
    • Proactively flag critical material and component issues for consideration that may impact design and/or design aesthetic at any point in the production life-cycle
    • Proactively flag critical material and/or component issues for consideration that may impact manufacturing and/or quality of final product at any point in the production life-cycle
    • Support JRDC project team according to project needs and lead related Material and Component discussions
    • Supplier Communication: Calibrate on Material and Component requirements creation, updates and clarifications
    • Create all innovation council presentations and follow up on all outcomes

    Support for Cross Functional Partners

    • Partner with JRDC and design team to oversee process from concept design through product development
    • Organize attend, and actively participate in departmental meetings with management to identify new and/or updated standards and template needs. Partner with Engineering and Manufacturing on technical updates to organized standards and templates
    • Provide product comparison analysis/comparative documents to support Design, New Product Engineering, Product Development, and Quality Improvement/Assurance teams
    • Support internal and external suppliers as needed by the project team to demonstrate product requirements and techniques
    • Proactively communicate risks and opportunities to all relevant JRDC counterparts
    • Ensure all documentation is complete on new techniques and materials so that it can be applied by internal and external counterparts on new product
    • Ensure alignment with legal, sourcing and sustainability partners
    • Complete all ROI analysis on new innovation/materials/process
    • Follow all inventory procedures

    Collaboration and Leadership

    • Partner with JRDC, PD, Design and MFG partners on material aspects of development. Interface with Director, Manager, Designers and cross-functional departments on project direction, review of artwork, timelines and issues
    • Identify opportunities for improvement and creation of efficiencies within area of responsibility and overall department. Create and implement plans to achieve results
    • Create and share regular status update documentation on innovation projects.
    • Present new material and innovations to partners in design, PD and CM.

     Technology Leader:

    • Create opportunities to research and operationalize innovative processes during the design, concept, and prototyping stages of the design lifecycle
    • Research, develop, and implement best practice standards and procedures across key business areas for new materials
    • Remain current with industry standards and knowledge related but not limited to; CAD, Model Making, Gold/Metalsmithing, material properties of precious and non precious materials from different manufacturing processes (e.g. stamped silver vs. cast silver), as well as Advanced Materials
    • As needed, attend tradeshows, conferences and report/make recommendations for new technologies
    • Research, develop, and implement best practice standards and procedures across key business areas including but not limited to existing materials; new materials; manufacturing; and mechanical functionality/approaches
    • Build contacts and networks with external Material, Engineering, and Design technology developers


    • 4 year Bachelors degree in Material Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or Engineering
    • Significant R&D training and experience
    • Manufacturing knowledge of jewelry and/or other related industries
    • Extensive experience working with diverse materials (e.g., precious metal, reactive metals, advanced ceramics, polymers, plastics, etc.
    • Experience applying formal training/skillset to developing a successful design/product/collection
    • Excellent written and verbal communication
    • Strong team player with a high level of professionally
    • Ability to adapt and meet urgent timelines under high demand condition
    • 3-5 Years experience in any of the following fields, applied chemistry, applied physics, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, polymer science & tech
    • Gemological training with GIA or FGA diploma
