The Director Training, Northern America, will manage the sales and product training execution for The Americas.  Through oversight of this critical function, this individual will help the Region attain its sales goals and exceed key performance indicators.  The training function will focus on drivers of sales, sales strategies, product, and service essentials and after sales service selling opportunities, developing and building customer relationships and clienteling.   This individual will help transform our ability to build lasting relationships by facilitating globally developed sales, service and management development programs individually and through a team of market based training professionals.  This individual will be responsible for managing and delivering core programs and curricula developed through Global Education and Organizational Effectiveness, modifying tools and resources as needed to meet individual market and region needs.  They will lead a team of trainers and retail coaches, to deliver impactful programs within the Region ("lighting a fire of passion" within the Americas organization).


Core Content and Program Oversight and Delivery- 30%

  • Execute learning & development priorities based on business goals and priorities set by Northern America leadership.
  • Assist with defining, standardizing and ensuring a consistent sales interaction
  • Managing the delivery of core corporate and specialized sales and management development programs to meet the business needs of the Region and train management and sales professionals to act as key sales drivers.    
  • Assess delivery methods,  tools and resources to respond to individual Market needs,  taking into consideration each Market's size, complexity, culture and competitive landscape
  • Execute customized strategies for on-boarding and training new management, teams into new stores, and individuals into existing stores, seasonal staff and refresher sales training.  
  • Consult with business leaders, HR Generalists and Global Education teams for development of programs and tools and resources to meet ever changing needs of business
  • Partner with Systems and Compliance Training Teams for unified training experience

Management Development and Sales Capability – 20%

  • Partner with Global Leadership Development for delivery of next generation management development programs as determined by Northern America leadership.
  • Support Market Vice Presidents (where appropriate) to develop their role as "sales coaches and high- impact team leaders"
  • Understand complexities of supporting and consulting in a transforming organization.

Sales Performance Consulting and Training- 10%

  • Consult with EXCO (Executive Committee) Leadership Team and assess competitors to gather input and data to identify (or confirm) knowledge/skill gaps and business challenges
  • Recommend learning resources and training interventions (where appropriate) to narrow knowledge and performance gaps

Analysis and Assessment- 5%

  • Maintain up to date knowledge of competitive landscape for feedback to Leadership and Global HR for program input and modification
  • Use metrics, KPIs, reports and measurement to ensure programs efficacy, efficiency and success
  • Assess trends through report analysis and provide regular updates to Leadership Team and Global Education

Program/Project/Budget Administration- 15%

  • Create project plans, document delivery time lines, resource requirements, costs and deliverables
  • Create and track a training follow- up/ refresher event cycle calendar
  • Manage large scale and significant budget.
  • Manage training logistics: Communications, venue planning, travel, materials production and some translation (Spanish, French Canadian), etc.
  • In partnership with Leadership and Global Ed, develop  strategic training plans and forecast appropriate yearly expenses for company Profit Planning submission

HR team coaching & development- 20%

  • Manage team of training specialists and managers.  Ability to train trainers.
  • Coach, develop and mentor direct and indirect reports.  Provide quality coaching, both formally and informally to continually improve service, support, training delivery and skill level for all team members. 
  • Liaise with Corporate Global Ed and Organizational Effectiveness departments-  network with Director counterparts in Europe, Asia- Pacific & Japan, and Manager of Training Latin America, to ensure consistency of program content, delivery standards and brand messaging
  • Number direct reports- 7-10, 2-3 Retail Coaches


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 8-10 Years of experience overall leading a multi- discipline training function in a luxury retail brand or related
  • Minimum 3 years actual retail sales or related experience
  • Bachelor's degree with specialty in HR, Psychology, Education
  • Strong consulting and coaching skills
  • Excellent Communication Skills
  • Comprehension of adult learning styles and instructional design
  • Experience designing and conducting needs analysis
  • Strong facilitation skills
  • strong project and people management (talent development) skills
  • experience managing a team (more than 5 preferred)
  • Strong analytical skills, prior large scale budget management experience.
  • Ability to travel approx. 30-40% of the time (varies) based on Team needs (managing, coaching, and observing team facilitation and store visits, etc.)


Preferred Qualifications

  • Gemological diploma
  • Advanced Degree (Masters) in Adult Learning, Organizational Development or Human Resources –strongly preferred
  • Instructional design experience
  • Experience with e-Learning
